Immediate dentures are placed on the day of total tooth extraction. They are called so because you get these dentures instantly when you are left with no teeth in the mouth.

Home care instructions after Immediate Dentures

Know what to expect while getting immediate dentures!

You are not supposed to take the dentures out for the first 24 hours.

As swelling, discoloration, and inflammation is likely to occur by doing so.

People often misjudge the pain of extraction from the denture. Remember, the pain won’t go away from removing the denture.

In case, you want to remove the denture, keep mouthwash ready to clean the denture.

Bleeding is common after the removal of teeth. Firmly bite on the gauze for half an hour to reduce bleeding.

Avoid rinsing your mouth, drinking hot fluid or alcohol.

Apply an Ice pack for 20 minutes twice or thrice daily on the first day. The use of Ice pack reduces post-operative swelling.

Use pain killers (analgesics) until pain persists.

You are called for a mandatory dental appointment on day 2 by your dentist.

You should eat soft food items for the first few days like cooked Cereals, milkshakes, mashed potatoes, pudding, and fruit smoothies.

Initially, strawberry red sore spots may develop. But there is nothing to bother of, visit your dentist for denture adjustments.

Continue wearing dentures at night for the first week or till the swelling lasts.

It would be best if you learned to practice removing and inserting dentures by now.

It would be best if you wash the dentures two to three times daily after every meal.

A brush should clean denture under running water using detergent. There are many types of Denture cleansers available. I recommend you to use Polident Denture Cleanser. It has good results.

Visit your dentist for suture removal after a week.

You must discontinue wearing dentures at night after a week.

Discontinue wearing dentures at night one week after immediate denture placement.

Get the tissue conditioner replaced every 4-5 days (in case your denture has). Never brush the tissue surface with the tissue conditioner on the denture.
Rinse the denture under running water.

It may need some time to adjust to your new set of dentures.
